
Located on the south of the Tibetan border and on the western rim of the "Nanda Devi Sanctuary" Biosphere Reserve, the Kauri Pass trek is one of the most popular winter treks in Uttarakhand. The trek starts from Dhak, a small village near Joshimath, and takes 4 days to get complete. Kuari means "doorway" and Kuari Pass is a Himalayan high mountain pass situated in the Garhwal region. The Kauri Pass trek offers mesmerizing views of the mighty Dronagiri, Chitrakantha, Chaukhamba, and Tali tops. The difficulty level of this trek varies from easy to moderate and hence it is suitable for both beginners as well as experienced ones.
The Kauri Pass trek was explored by Lord Curzon and is also known as the Curzon trail. The pass lies at an altitude of 3876 m. Kuari Pass trek has perfect old forests of Rhododendrons and Oaks. This trek has perfect idyllic campsites like Chitrakatha and Khullar. While the majority of other mountain passes within the Himalayas are covered with snow Kuari Pass is only an accessible mountain pass during the winter.
